once upon a time, there was The little Black book of Bronzers…
The last time too faced released a little Black book of Bronzers, it was HUGE!

No, literally, it was huge… The palette (or, as too faced refers to it, the “bronzing wardrobe”) held eight full-size too faced Bronzers, which was very cool if you were/are into the whole “bigger is better” aesthetic, and also very cool if you ever dreamed of owning a palette so massive that it could cover half of your body.

It’s generally the same idea, except that the pans are smaller this time (0.08 ounces each, instead of 0.28), and the price is too ($49 vs. $139)

So, while you may lose the ability to use it as an improv table for TV dinners or breakfast in bed, and it no longer functions as an umbrella with which to shield yourself from the sun while lounging on the beach with Zac Efron…it’s a lot much easier to tote around.

Plus, you know what they say: “Good things come in small packages.” If the original was an oversized coffee table book, this one is the paperback.

A bronzer for every mood, outfit and moment
Too faced also tweaked the lineup a little, swapping Bronzed and Poreless for Dark chocolate Soleil, their newest shade.

Other than that, there’s a good variety of shimmery finishes and mattes, and none of them are excessively warm or orange.

With eight bronzers, there’s one to opt for every mood, outfit and moment in yo’ life. Like, have you ever wondered what bronzer to wear to go to your ex’s house to pick up those Biggie CDs that homeboy never had the decency to return?

Well, how about deep shimmery bronzed beach Bunny? — because you’d want to recreate a glow that says, “Hey, fool. ever considering that we broke up, I spend every Sunday by the pool at the four seasons with my new billionaire boyfriend.”

Ya know, that kind of thing.

I like the idea of having a different bronzer for different looks, and that they’re all easily accessible in a palette that actually fits in a drawer.

Yeah, the original one’s size made it cool…but not functional at all.

Chocolate Soleil: A cocoa powder-infused matte bronzer (really does smell like chocolate!). must work well for a large range of skin tones, too, for everyday contouring, or for creating a deep, all-over tan.

Milk chocolate Soleil: A lighter version of chocolate Soleil. this one must be great for lighter skin tones trying to find all-over warmth.

Dark chocolate Soleil: A matte bronzer to sculpt cheeks, this deeper version of chocolate Soleil must be best for dramatically contoured looks.

Snow Bunny: blend these four shimmery shades together for natural, sun-kissed radiance.

Pink Leopard: A trio of tan, bronze and pink to brighten and bestow a glow all over.

Beach Bunny: This luminous bronzer combines four sun-kissed tans into a shower of summer time shimmer.

Endless Summer: This matte works on all skin tones and lasts 16 hours (and often more).

Sun Bunny: This bronzer’s slightly pink undertones help it imitate a real tan.

1. Scrub-a-dub-dub

Exfoliate. It’s easier when my lips are soft as well as damp, like right after I get out of the shower.

2. A balm before bed

Let’s be real. The last thing on this earth I needed was to fall in love with another pricey Chanel blush, but I have. The flower pattern on the pan always brings a smile to my face (and it isn’t just brushed away after the first few swipes).

Technically, it’s a pinkish peachy mauve with a dash of plum and a finish somewhere in the heavenly ether between matte and satin. Un-technically, it’s like blasting Taylor Swift and dancing around your room first thing in the morning.

This is one of those Chanel blushes that I’m sure I’ll remember years from now and think of fondly with a sparkle in my eye…

In The world According to K-Dawg (publication date: soon), hot pink lips are always a good idea, and La Romanesque is a fresh take on the concept.

While in tune with the current matte lipstick revival, it has a velvety matte finish, so it isn’t as flat as a lot of mattes. It has the faintest whisper of shine, which makes it kinder and a lot more approachable.

Whenever I wear it, I like to blur the edges. First, I’ll apply it directly from the tube, smack my lips a few times to disperse the color, then I’ll push it out to the edges of my lips with a lip brush, and pat a few times with a finger for a casual, barely-there edge, uncomplicated and ladylike.

A satin finish and a dash of plum spice up Tissé Rivoli’s shimmery golden taupes.

Whenever I wear this quad, which is one of the permanent collection quads in the recently revamped baked eyeshadow fam, on my lids, I’m sure I have a little extra spring in my step.

I think it’s one of the most generally flattering Chanel quads, and its mix of shimmery golden taupes and plums suit a large range of skin tones because they aren’t excessively cool-toned or warm, so I have complimentary rein over the cheek and lip colors I wear them with.

I like to do a soft wash of color with one of the lighter shades and mix one the darker or mid-toned shades for a hazy, smokey eye.

If you’re worn out of the pastels that usually dominate shelves for spring, try Tissé Rivoli.

No rush though. It’s in the permanent collection, so it isn’t going anywhere.

4. Chanel Stylo Yeux waterproof Long-Lasting eyeliner in Ardoise ($32)

Just a few things I’m loving from Chanel…
For me this spring, gunmetal gray is the new black, but not all gray liners are created equal. This one’s deeper, richer and a lot more intense than a lot of (none of that wishy-washy dishwater gray business), and it’s coupled with a subtle shimmery sheen that I vow makes my peepers look bigger.

5. Chanel No. 19 Poudre Eau de Parfum ($120)

Here’s a closeup picture of the boscia mask below. It has alternating layers of black and white charcoal, and the consistency is thick and gel-like. It also has a mild herbal scent. 

The black charcoal is detoxifying, and the white charcoal is calming and moisturizing. This is one of the few clarifying masks I’ve tried that doesn’t leave my face feeling incredibly tight and dry, and I think it will be ideal for people with combination skin, because it’ll help clear pores without being excessively drying.
